The Role of Diet in Managing Constipation: “What foods help with constipation?”

We’ve all struggled with constipation at some stage of our life, some more than others. Whether your constipation is chronic, or something you struggle with from time to time, there are things you can do to help, and what you eat does make a difference.

What is constipation?

Constipation is a condition in which your bowels struggle to eliminate stool efficiently, making it difficult and sometimes painful to pass. When waste remains in the large intestine for an extended period, it continues to lose moisture, becoming increasingly dry and hard. This dehydration makes bowel movements even more challenging, often leading to discomfort and strain.

What causes constipation?

Constipation can arise from a variety of factors, including dehydration, a sedentary lifestyle, and a diet lacking in fibre. Food intolerances, certain medications and painkillers, as well as intestinal parasites, can also contribute to digestive issues. Additionally, emotional stress and traumatic events may disrupt normal bowel function, further leading to constipation.

What foods can help with constipation?

Processed foods lack the essential fibre needed to form healthy stools, often leading to digestive issues such as mucus buildup, increased acidity, and inflammation. Over time, this can cause discomfort and even damage the intestinal lining. To support better digestion, focus on fibre-rich foods like whole grains, including whole wheat bread, pasta, oats, and bran cereals. Legumes such as lentils, black beans, and chickpeas are also excellent choices. Fruits like apples, oranges, and berries provide natural fibre, while vegetables like carrots, green peas, and broccoli further promote gut health. Nuts, such as almonds and peanuts, can also be beneficial. However, when increasing fibre intake, it’s important to do so gradually. If your diet has been low in fibre, suddenly consuming too much can lead to bloating and digestive discomfort, so take it slow and allow your body to adjust.

Still struggling? Try an enema or ConstaClear

An enema is a way to physically remove the stool sitting in the lower colon by gently introducing warm water or coffee into the colon via the rectum. This softens the waste matter and stimulates peristalsis or movement of the colon muscles. This then activates a bowel movement, which is a great relief for those suffering from constipation. Doing a coffee enema increases the liver’s production of glutathione, a crucial antioxidant for detoxification, by 600 - 700%, while also assisting the body in eliminating toxins and parasites.

If you’re new to enemas, we highly recommend our Beginner’s Bundle, which has everything you need to get started on coffee enemas. Alternatively, our Happy Colon Bundle is a great place to start for constipation relief.

Magnesium Oxide can offer a natural solution for supporting constipation. This natural supplement draws water into the intestines, softening stools and promoting regular bowel movements. ConstaClear is 100% Magnesium Oxide. No chemicals, no cramping, just nice easy releases. The more you hydrate, the better it will work. It’s much better for your body and your bowel than any chemical laxative.

Eat well, hydrate, and consider an enema or ConstaClear. Your body will thank you for it.
