Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune condition where your immune system starts attacking your thyroid - the gland that helps regulate energy, metabolism, mood, and more. This leads to hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone), which can leave you feeling tired, bloated and foggy. In other words, you simply don’t feel like yourself anymore.
But your thyroid doesn’t work alone. It’s part of an interconnected network that includes your gut, liver, and mineral balance. When one of these is out of whack, your thyroid can’t do the job it’s supposed to.
Hashimoto’s disease is more common in middle-aged women; however, anyone can get it. It’s not clear what causes it, but genetics, environmental triggers, and stress, are said to play a role. It’s a disease that progresses slowly over years as their thyroid hormone production starts to decline more and more.
What are the symptoms of Hashimoto’s disease?
Symptoms of Hashimoto’s disease can be subtle and often mistaken for other conditions. Common signs include persistent fatigue, unexplained weight gain, sensitivity to cold, dry skin, hair loss, muscle aches and joint pain, constipation, and changes in mood such as depression or anxiety. Some people may also notice swelling in the neck due to an enlarged thyroid (goitre), and menstrual irregularities can occur in women.
So, what can we do?
Gut health: Your gut is where nutrients are absorbed and where 20% of thyroid hormone conversion happens. If your gut is inflamed or sluggish, your thyroid can’t thrive. Think probiotics, prebiotics, and gentle detoxing.
Liver love: Your liver is your hormone-processing powerhouse. It converts inactive thyroid hormone into the active form. If it’s congested, your energy tanks. Castor oil packs, liver-loving herbs, and regular coffee enemas can help clear the path. We highly recommend our Happy Liver Bundle, which includes both the coffee enemas as well as a liver detox tea.
“For anyone struggling with chronic conditions like Hashimoto's, supporting the liver is key. Coffee enemas gave me a safe, effective way to do that consistently.” – Anna Lunghofer, Integrative Holistic Practitioner.
Mineral magic: Minerals like selenium, zinc, magnesium, and iodine are essential for thyroid function as deficiencies are common in Hashimoto’s.
Lowering inflammation: Hashimoto’s is rooted in immune dysfunction, so calming inflammation is key. That means reducing stress, avoiding inflammatory foods (gluten, dairy, sugar), and supporting detox pathways.
Gentle detox rituals: Enemas, castor oil packs, and infrared saunas can help your body release toxins that may be triggering your immune system. It’s not about being extreme but rather about being consistent and kind to your body.
Look after your body. It’s the only one you have.
We’re always here to help.
