Let's jump in!
Top 12 questions about coffee enemas
1. How do you actually do a coffee enema?
Brew 2 tbsp (10–13g) of Happy Bum Beans in 600 to 800ml boiling filtered water, steep 10 minutes, plunge, and cool to body temperature. Pour into your kit, remove air from the hose, lubricate the tip, insert, let it flow in, and aim to hold 12–15 minutes before releasing.
2. What kind of coffee should I use?
Use Happy Bum Beans, organic, air‑roasted, clean, and designed specifically for enemas. Each bag of coffee will make 30 to 40 enemas!
3. How often should I do them?
Daily, weekly, or whenever your body needs it. Everyone is different so just listen to what your body needs and make sure you are following an enema after-care routine like re-hydrating with electrolytes or coconut water, taking a probiotic like Gut Food and using a binder like Gut Scrub to help minimise detox symptoms.
4. What does it feel like?
Most people find it calming and relieving. You may feel fullness, warmth, or the urge to release.
5. Is it safe?
Use body‑temperature liquid, stay hydrated, and follow instructions. Enemas should not be too hot or too cold, and electrolytes are recommended afterward.
6. What are the real benefits?
Coffee enemas may help relieve bloating and constipation, stimulate bile flow, support detoxification, and boost glutathione.
7. How long should I hold it?
Aim for 12–15 minutes, but you still get benefits even if you can’t.
8. What’s the difference between a water enema and a coffee enema?
Water enemas relieve constipation quickly. Coffee enemas support detoxification and liver function.
9. Can I do one if I’m sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, or on medication?
Coffee enemas are ok to do when you are sick, or some people prefer a herbal enema using on of our Happy Bum Teas which can be more gentle on your body. Coffee enemas are not recommended when pregnant. Many women do coffee enemas when breastfeeding but again, it is personal choice and you should always check with your holistic health practitioner if you are unsure.
10. What happens if I can’t hold it?
Totally normal, beginners especially. You’re still getting benefits. For other reasons and tips on how to hold, check out this article.
11. Do I need to lie on my left side?
You can lie on your back or side or even stand up, whatever is most comfortable.

Rinse with warm water, add Happy Bum Clean, let it bubble and soak, then rinse and air‑dry.
