I finally got a chance to do a second coffee enema. No kid around, check! A spare 15 minutes, check! Other than forgetting to clamp down the hose, my first experience was so easy that I already felt like a pro.
This time I made sure the solution was ready early so that I could use it whenever I had the time that day, instead of feeling annoyed that it was taking so long to get to room temperature. I also double-checked that the clamp was in. No more coffee spills for me!
And hey, if I lasted twelve minutes the first time, maybe this time I could get all the way up to fifteen!
After a few minutes, I needed to release. That happened the first time and I was still able to keep holding. This time, however, was different. I made it to six minutes before Usain Bolting it to the toilet.
After that, I felt a little crampy, and my anxiety levels were definitely higher.
Not quite the ‘happy-go-lucky’ feeling I had the first time around.
What was going on?
I made myself some Hydrate, aware that I probably needed some good electrolytes to keep me hydrated. It’s also delicious, so that helps!
But despite this, I still felt a little ‘off’.
A quick search on the Happy Bum Co website and it was obvious this wasn’t an uncommon feeling. Who knew stress could play such a big role in hold time. And the weird emotions – yep, that’s a big part of it, too.
So, what was different between my first enema experience and my second? Stress. Definitely stress. A lot has happened this month! In fact, just the day before, I was stressing about not getting my period despite always getting it on time. Has my husband had the snip? Yes. Did I Google whether it was still possible to fall pregnant even if he’s had the operation? Also yes.
Stress does funny things to the body (and mind!).
I went into that second enema with a lot of heavy thoughts. I’ve always been a naturally anxious person so it’s no surprise that the stress of the month has affected my body. It was, however, good to know that these feelings were normal and that doing another coffee enema while also working on my stress levels would help.
The next morning, my stomach was sore. My first thought was, ‘Uh oh. Did that enema make things worse?’ This time, I didn’t reach out to Dr. Google. Instead, I took some deep breaths. Coffee enemas are helping me figure out what my body needs and what I can do to heal myself from the inside out. It’s a journey and not something that’s going to be fixed right away.
Anyway, it turns out I had nothing to worry about. My period had arrived!
